Dr Haris Hakeem is a highly skilled neurologist with subspecialty interest and training in Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy and Intracranial electroencephalography (Stereo-EEG).
Haris completed his neurology training and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Pakistan, which holds accreditation from the US based Joint
Commission International. He trained further in epilepsy and obtained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) through work at the Alfred and Royal
Melbourne Hospitals. Subsequently, he completed an advanced fellowship in intracranial electroencephalography (stereo-EEG) at the Alfred. Currently, he serves as a consultant
neurologist and epileptologist at Alfred health, offering both inpatient and outpatient services.
Haris is subspecialized in managing a wide spectrum of patients with epilepsy. This encompasses individuals with their first seizure or unexplained black outs (which may not be
seizures), newly diagnosed epilepsy and drug resistant epilepsy, including patients requiring intracranial EEG monitoring to localize seizures and evaluate for optimum advanced
therapies such as epilepsy surgery, minimally invasive ablation therapies and various neuromodulation approaches (e.g. vagus nerve stimulation and deep brain stimulation).
Besides this, he also provides care for patients with general neurological concerns.
An avid researcher, Haris has published in reputable international journals. During his PhD, he contributed to developing the first of its kind AI based machine learning model
for personalized selection of antiseizure medications in newly diagnosed epilepsy.
